St. Pauls Primary School modular classroom extension

St Pauls Primary school in Salford Greater Manchester had requirements for the installation of extra modular educational facilities. In April 2016 MTX were awarded the contract to provide the school with bespoke modular classroom facilities to house the growing number of primary students.

The Requirements

In order to pacify their need for more school places to be available, St Pauls primary school required extra classroom facilities. MTX ran the project under Galliford Try for the North West and came up with the solution to construct a modular building which would provide 6no classrooms, a breakout area and wash room facilities.

MTX commenced works onsite in May 2016 with groundworks on the current playing fields to accommodate the 18 bay modular building. This was to be situated on the right hand side of the current school building providing easy access from the main entrance. The modular building itself was delivered onsite on the 13th July 2016 and the M&E fit out then began straight after this.

The Solution

MTX designed the end product to be a single floor establishment to house all the necessary lodgings. All fit out works were accomplished within 9 weeks including the external cedar cladding. The project was finished to the colour preference of the end user, both internally and externally. Fan lights were installed above the classroom doors to permit further natural light and promote an eco-friendly school environment. Controlled roof lights were also installed in each classroom which provided both teacher control as well as fully smart control connected to Co2 sensor and rain sensors.

All classrooms were installed with electric blinds which were operated by single teacher control and the LED lighting throughout the project included PIR detection. The scheme was delivered on time, to the client’s standard and fully compliant with Building Bulletin regulations.

Main Considerations

Capital cost and programme certainty were key to the client in this project, due to the fact that they had an un-negotiable completion date of September 2016 when the new school year would begin. MTX had sights for the project to be completed within 10 weeks from the modules being delivered tonight however due to excellent programme planning and onsite construction works, the new facility was actually handed over within 9 weeks.
